Contest Rules
Here's what y'all gotta do. Pay close attention, 'cause if there's one thing worse than cattle on the loose, it's cattle covered in paint on the loose!
The Task
The theme of the contest is "Take Time for a Great Time." Think about what you like about the State Fair—what’s so great about it? Why do you go? What does it mean to you? (Me, I like them deep-fried Snickers bars!)
Next, talk with your classmates about your ideas. Be creative! Just try to remember that livestock like to be outdoors, so they’ll be on display outside for three weeks. Whatever y'all come up with, make sure it can stand up to that Carolina heat, and don’t use materials that’ll invite other people to mess with your design!
General Rules
Now, remember, each school's entry has got to be original. Don't be copyin' other people's work!
Also keep in mind that once you agree to participate in the contest, you agree that your entry belongs to the State Fair. They can use your name and your artwork in any promotions, publications or exhibitions they see fit.
No nudity or profanity! These are cows and horses, now, not the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Voting fraud will result in your school being disqualified. We ain't kiddin'!
Submission Process
You'll get your animal on August 22, 2008. Your teachers will take lots of photos before we come to pen your animal up on September 18. You'll be able to visit your critter at the unveilin' event at Triangle Town Center on September 20, when the votin' officially starts.
The NC State Fair will get the word out by sendin' stuff to the media and what not, and they’ll be the ones to oversee the judgin’. The judges will pick a grand prize winner, a second place winner, and a third place winner.
Judging Criteria
The judges'll be lookin' for lotsa different things, but they'll want to see how clearly and creatively you and your classmates stuck to the theme of the North Carolina State Fair, "Take Time for a Great Time."
Prizes
After all that, a winner'll get decided! Well, three winners, actually. It’ll go like this:
- The Grand Prize winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize.
- The Second Place winner will receive a $750 cash prize.
- The Third Place winner will receive a $500 cash prize.
- Each school receives $200 for participation.
- There will also be a People's Choice award, which will be determined through a vote (and again, any evidence of voting fraud will automatically disqualify a contestant for any and all awards).
And remember: much as we're sure you need that new video game whatchacallit, all the prizes go to your school, not in your pocket!
Deadline
The deadline is September 18, 2008. Get hustlin'! Those animals won't decorate themselves!
Announcing the Winners
After all the inspections and photos are done, the judges will announce the winners on October 13, 2008 at the NC State Fairgrounds. People's Choice voting will start right after the animals go on display at Triangle Town Center on September 20.
